Dice Games: Grand Hazard
Craps is not the only game that can be played with dice. There are several other types of games players can play that offer a chance for fun, excitement, and an opportunity to make – or lose — a bit of money. “Grand Hazard” is a banking game that originated in the Wild West Frontier, so it has quite an interesting background for people who are into that type of history. The game is now mostly played as a side-type game in casinos since the Wild West days are over. Basics of the Game Three dice are used in game play during Grand Hazard. Basically, players are betting on the outcome of the three dice. The concept of the game is fairly simple, and, therefore, pretty much anyone can enjoy playing – even newcomers to dice games in general. The house keeps its edge by paying out less as a result of keeping the player’s stake bet. This means on a payout of 30 to one, the player will basically receive pay for 29-to-one odds. Three of a kind rolls, or raffles, are not included. Betting A high bet in this game is a bet on a total number of 11 and up, while a low bet is a bet on a total number of 10 or less. If the player can correctly guess the outcome of the dice, high or low, the player wins the bets. The game is often used with a particular layout, and also features the dice and a “hazard chute.” The hazard chute is used to roll the dice through so as to discourage cheating. This is to ensure the roll will remain random. Dice can also be shaken in a cup before the roll, which is turned upside down and rattled to prohibit specialized rolls and cheating. The Odds The odds for Grand Hazard vary from the different numbers selected. For example, rolling a combination of 10 has seven-to-one odds and the payoff would, thus, be six to one. The house edge on this particular roll would be 25 percent. The edge may increase or decrease depending upon the number in question that is rolled. While Grand Hazard may not be as popular as craps or as elegant as another dice game, its simple concept and game playing still attracts people to its table today. | ||||
