Dice Games: The Types of Dice
Not surprisingly, there are several different types of dice that can be used to play the variety of different dice games that are available today. Although there are special types of dice available, most people choose to play with either standard dice or casino dice. While both of these types of dice may look the same, they are different in very minute ways that can make a big difference to some people when playing. While casinos would not use anything but casino dice, most of the time standard dice will serve its purpose in the hands of most people. Standard Dice Standard dice are the types of dice that suit most people’s needs. These dice are shaped like a cube with six sides and each side labeled with one to six dots. As part of being a regular die, all opposing sides of the die should add up to seven. These ordinary dice are also called “imperfect” dice, and they may also have two other terms. These include “drugstore,” or “candy,” dice. These terms are made in reference to the imperfections that separate the standard dice from the casino dice. Standard dice generally have recessed sports and rounded corners. The corners assist the dice in rolling more easily. Their size is usually more than one-half an inch, and the dice are generally made of plastic, although wood, stone, glass, and other metals can also be used. Dice are also available in smaller and larger sizes with different types of markings, although spots are the most commonly used. Imperfect dice will tend to favor the higher numbered sides, like six, five, and four because those sides are lighter due to the increased number of spots. This is what separates imperfect dice from casino dice. Casino Dice Casino dice are used by casinos who do not want to risk their bankrolls on dice that may land imperfectly. When holes are drilled into the casino dice, they are refilled with a material that makes them equal in weight all the way around. The dice are also about as close to a true cube as a manufactured piece can get. This gives the dice their name of “precision” dice, or “perfect” dice. Casinos appreciate that these dice have an equal chance of landing on any one of the die’s six faces. These dice are also available in the standard sizes, and while they are generally just used for casinos, people who are serious about their gambling can purchase them, as well. | ||||
